In ‘Shurer Jadu’ (The Magic of Music) priority is given to songs requested by the children. We also teach songs by Nazrul Islam, Rabindranath Tagore and patriotic songs. Recently, we introduced three Tagore songs ‘Badh bhenge dao’, ‘Byartho praner aborjona purieye fele’ and ‘Soncochero Beubalata’, the message and tunes from all three songs are particularly inspirational for children and parents. We sing many songs dating back to the Independence War and others of a patriotic nature. We also introduce songs about the seasons to teach the children about the various seasons in Bangladesh.
We have observed that a number of children whom one would classify as non-verbal or unable to participate in group activities are now singing and expressing themselves with words and hand gestures. Many children now request songs verbally or through hand gestures. Increasing numbers of mothers have reported that children pack their ‘Chhayanaut’ materials and bags or otherwise prompt their mothers to go to the class.
A new song ‘Shokatore oi kadhiche’ is being taught at ‘Shurer Jadu’, by instructor Sumon Kampu on 26 May 2015.
