‘Jadu’ (or Magic)

‘Jadu’ means magic in Bangla. ‘Shurer Jadu’ , the name of a music class for autistic children, translates as the magic of music while ‘Ronger Jadu’, the art class for autistic children, translates  as the magic of colour.

In 2008, Dr. Hoque set up the ‘Surer Jadu’ class at ‘Chhayanaut’*,with Dr. Sohana Ahmed who was Aadil’s home tutor in music at the time. Dr. Sanjeda Khatun, director and co-founder of  Chhayanaut, inaugurated the class in the same year. Soon, ‘Ronger Jadu’ the art class was added by popular request and this time with Aadil’s home tutor in art, Mr. Ali Akhtar Shaheen.

Both the music and art classes have been extremely popular for both children and parents alike. We are soon to celebrate our fifth anniversary. Our current teachers are:

  • Music – Sumon Kampu
  • Art – Bithi and Nazma

Dr. Hoque has been serving as course coordinator from the beginning and continues to do so. Our purpose of both classes is primarily one of providing pleasure – in fact most of our Shurer Jadu students are non verbal. Alongside the class, all teachers work very closely with the parents.

Ronger Jadu

You will agree that music and art has had a magical effect in these classes.

* ‘Chayyanaut Sangeet Vidayattan’, is the full name of the school of music and dance, that has been a cultural institution in Bangladesh since its inception in the 1960s. Chayyanaut has been a keen supporter of Shurer Jadu and Ronger Jadu.
