Niloy

Years ago I received this advice from Temple Grandin: ”Work on your child’s strengths, not just his deficits”. I try to pass on this advice to my AUA parents too. Niloy’s mother came to me distraught after being told by a psychologist that her son would not be able to achieve anything in life and she should  train him to do tasks like washing dishes so that he would be of some use in the future when he would be looked after by his younger brother.

When I asked fifteen year old  Niloy what he liked doing best , he promptly took out a drawing book and within minutes produced this wonderful  drawing.  He explained it was the house of a “zamindar”, a rich landlord.

When I inquired about the grid he  answered  it was a solar panel that stored energy from the sun to light the bulbs. I was amazed at the free hand drawings  done at home-intricate details of the computer he dreams of owning one day ,motorcycles, ships  etc . As a result of my advice  Niloy is now receiving   input from an art teacher which I hope will help him reach his full potential and most importantly ,provide much pleasure.
