Dr. Leedy Hoque

Dr. Leedy Hoque

home based educational and therapeutic programme in Oxford, UK between September 1996 to July 2000. In addition to extensive reading on autism, at numerous conferences in the UK, Dr. Hoque met many individuals at the forefront of autism research eg. educationists Carol Gray and Dave Hewett, psychiatrists Uta Frith and Francesca Happe, scientists Paul Shattock and William Shaw, and clinicians Andrew Wakefield and Michael Tettenborn.

At lectures given by prominent autistic individuals Temple Grandin and Donna Williams, Dr. Hoque gained information and insight which she directly applied to help Aadil. As a result of this intense stimulation Aadil emerged from his hyperactive, noncommunicative and aggressive state at the age of 7, to become a lively fun loving individual able to express his wants and needs. He has many interests and is an avid reader with an insatiable appetite for Ancient Egypt. He has to his credit several solo art exhibitions home and abroad, including his exhibition entitled “Devotion” at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, Dhaka. He is also the recipient of a gold medal in an international  art competition.

Dr. Leedy Hoque is currently offering her expertise to parents and carers of autistic children through her advisory service, AUA. She is also active in promoting awareness about autism through her writings, radio interviews and TV appearances and documentaries. In 2008, the documentary ‘The Winners’ by Impress Telefilms which followed the daily activities of Aadil at home, at school and in the community, won international accolade as the best children’s documentary in South Asia by UNICEF.
